Event Overview

what

A unique, one-day relay adventure in which you and five friends run 70(ish) scenic miles through the heart of the Lowcountry to finish at the Firefly Distillery in North Charleston (just outside of Charleston).  The Palmetto Relay /70 is a 12-leg event that follows roughly the last third of the /200 course and runs through the Low Country of South Carolina.

When

The first flight of teams will start the 70-mile relay around 3:30 am on Saturday, March 23, 2024. Over the next hour or so, additional sets of teams will depart on their journey through the Low Country. /70 teams will start to finish around 2:00 pm that afternoon. 

 

Who

From casual joggers to serious racers, this event is great fun for everyone. Teams are made up of 2 to 6 people who split 12 legs. 

Each team will provide support vans to drop off and pick up runners at designated Exchange Zones along the 70-mile route.

Note: Teams should be able to average 10:15/mi for the course. It is OK if some of your team members are slower than 10:15/mi, but the average should be close to that.  Contact us if you have concerns about your team pace.

Note: This is a high level view of the course and does not exactly match the individual leg maps due to small adjustments along the route. The leg maps and race worksheet are the actual course.

Awards

We will award the top overall Palmetto Relay Winner and Masters Team (all runners 40+), along with those in the team categories listed below.  Team captains will select a team category during registration, but this can change before the race if the makeup of the team changes (this will be finalized when the team paces/start times are finalized).

Full & Ultra Team Awards:

  • Open - All male or less than 50% female

  • Mixed - 50% or more female

  • Female - 100% female

Masters Team Designation Awards:

  • 100% of team 40 years old or older by the race start

  • Awards will be given in each of the above categories for Masters Teams
