COVID-19 (coronavirus) Statement

Based on the information we have available to us right now, we do not plan to have any changes to the 2020 Palmetto Relay. We are monitoring the global and statewide impact of COVID-19 (coronavirus) and the advice of the World Health Organization and Centers for Disease Control & Prevention. Our top priority is always the health and safety of our participants and volunteers, and we will continue to monitor the developing COVID-19 (coronavius) situation.

We encourage runners to monitor their own situation and follow appropriate health guidelines to ensure they are well enough to participate. We will provide ongoing updates to our participants as necessary via our website, email, and social media.

The Palmetto Relay is an outdoor and not centrally located event. And, for the most part, runners are not in close quarters with most runners or spectators during the race. The obvious exception is in the team van. We highly encourage teams to have a plan for keeping the van environment sanitized by having wipes and plenty of hand-sanitizer and/or soap on hand during the race.

According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, the best way to prevent illness is to avoid being exposed to this virus. However, as a reminder, the CDC always recommends everyday preventive actions to help prevent the spread of respiratory diseases including:

  1. Avoid close contact with people who are sick.

  2. Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.

  3. Stay home when you are sick.

  4. Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.

  5. Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipe.

  6. Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom, before eating, and after blowing your nose, coughing or sneezing.
